Major changes announced at MasterBUILT
CALGARY, Alta. — MasterBUILT Hotels, a leading Canadian hotel development, and management company, and the master territorial developer for Microtel by Wyndham, yesterday announced the appointment of a new leadership team as they set their sights on a bright future.
The team is now led by David Donaldson in the role of president. Donaldson’s extensive professional history includes the founder and CEO of Grandville Equities Corporation and president and CEO of Practicar Systems Inc. He brings a background in restructuring and refocusing, ensuring MasterBUILT continues to be laser-focused on its aggressive growth plan of opening 75 Microtels by 2036.
Prior to establishing Grandville Equities Corporation, Donaldson excelled as a senior manager and executive within three large distribution and retail businesses: in each he was responsible for 350- 450 union/non-union employees, and senior managers. He completed the construction and operations of downstream oil and gas facilities, transportation, and warehousing facilities as well as intermodal rail and truck operations. David holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of Calgary, an MBA from Queens University, and a Global Professional Masters of Law degree, from the University of Toronto.
He will be supported by the existing MasterBUILT leadership of Donna Fahey, who has been vice-president of sales and marketing for a year and a half, Rhonda Holland, who has been promoted to vice-president of finance and group controller, and Ryan Tracey who has a new position as vice-president hotel operations.
Fahey has worked at MasterBUILT for almost six years, starting as director of sales and marketing. Before that, she had 13 years of sales and marketing experience in the hospitality industry – having worked as the director of sales and marketing at Bellstar Hotels & Resorts (a leading resort development and management company in Western Canada) and then as director of sales and marketing at the Delta Hotel in downtown Calgary.
Holland has 20-plus years of accounting and finance experience, reporting for public and private companies, and NPO’s. She has been with MasterBUILT for almost five years, starting as director of finance and group controller. Her previous experience includes six years in a senior accounting role with Brookfield Residential, one of North America’s largest developer/builders publicly traded on the TSX and NYSE. She also has more than 10 years of experience within global multi-divisional construction/engineering firms and more than six years providing strategic oversight and financial reporting for executive leadership teams and investor groups.
Tracey’s hospitality background spans 12 years and includes positions in operations management, revenue management, accounting, and food and beverage management. Before joining the MasterBUILT team Ryan spent six years with Fortis Properties where he most recently held the position of general manager of multiple hotels in Medicine Hat. Tracey has been with MasterBUILT for four and a half years, and his previous position was director of operations, Western Canada.
Rounding out the new leadership team is Corbin Staniloff in the role of vice-president of development and Bruce Mullett as vice-president of construction.
Bruce Mullet was the project manager for three of MasterBUILT’s most recent hotel builds, and now takes on a permanent role in the leadership team, providing consistency in this division.
“I am extremely pleased to have David on board to lead the MasterBUILT team,” said Marc Staniloff, executive chair of MasterBUILT Hotels. “I feel MasterBUILT’s new leadership team brings a dynamic and forward-thinking attitude which will allow us to meet the goal of opening 75 Microtels by 2036.”
“MasterBUILT is positioned for growth, and I look forward to being part of this critical phase by providing strategic leadership to allow for a solid foundation that this company can build upon,” explains David Donaldson, president of MasterBUILT Hotels.
MasterBUILT Hotels holds the master territorial development rights for Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Canada and is focused on best-in-class development and management of new construction hotels, primarily within the Wyndham and Marriott brand families.
